Publication Ethics

PUBLICATION ETHICS

NAHNU; Journal of Nahdlatul Ulama and Contemporary Islamic Studies is a professional scientific publication, a forum for information, and a source of knowledge that emphasizes scientific principles and rules with strict publication ethics standards regarding procedures, techniques, and substance. This Journal is committed to publishing scientific articles that meet high standards and qualifications. Every published article must meet scientific rules and uphold the values ​​of publication ethics. All article elements must be original, obtained, and produced by the author and never published elsewhere in any publishing platform or language. To ensure the quality and professionalism of the publication and its management, the publication ethics standards in this Journal are enforced and bind all related parties, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the journal team in general. The following is a detailed description of the normative ethics of publication in this Journal.

 

AUTHOR'S OBLIGATIONS

Manuscript ethics standards:

  1. The author must ensure that each article submitted is truly his work (original);
  2. Authors must attach a statement of originality of the manuscript; the statement can be downloaded at this link (click here);
  3. Authors must ensure that the submitted article contains scientific standards, starting from writing techniques and methodology to the substance, by considering the environment, focus, and scope of this Journal's study;
  4. Authors must be willing to follow all processes or publication flows in this Journal from the beginning until the article is accepted and published;
  5. Authors are prohibited from committing any form of violation that violates scientific publication ethics.

Originality and Plagiarism of Manuscripts:

  1. Authors must ensure and guarantee that every element of the manuscript is completely free from plagiarism practices that violate copyright (plagiarism);
  2. The level of similarity of the manuscript is no more than 15 percent;
  3. The submitted manuscript is not under consideration by other publishers on any platform;
  4. Manuscripts that have entered the review stage (In Review) are not allowed to be withdrawn unless there is something essential and fateful;
  5. Article withdrawal must include a withdrawal statement letter;
  6. Manuscripts contain transparent and accountable references or sources.

Multiple Submissions and/or Multiple Publications:

  1. In principle, authors are not permitted to submit manuscripts to more than one Journal at a time unless a withdrawal statement has been made beforehand;
  2. Manuscripts that are indicated to have been sent (submitted) and/or published elsewhere will not be processed;
  3. Any form of duplication of manuscripts and plagiarism of manuscripts that violate copyright, either in part or in whole, is entirely the author's responsibility.

Statement of No Conflict of Interest:

  1. The submitted manuscripts are entirely free from conflicts of interest, both institutionally and personally;
  2. The manuscript must contain all important information related to research funding sources that have the potential to affect all processes and stages of research activities, such as financial support, facility support, and the like.

 

EDITOR'S DUTIES

Publication Decisions:

  1. Each editor can accept and/or reject submitted manuscripts by considering aspects of the suitability of the manuscript and ethical standards for publishing scientific works;
  2. The editor is permitted to provide recommendations to the author to modify and improve the manuscript;
  3. Editors' activities and actions must be based on general guidelines for manuscripts, ethical standards for scientific publishing;
  4. In terms of providing clarity or deciding on the suitability of a manuscript, each editor is allowed to discuss it with other editors;
  5. Each editor must be responsible for the assignment of their respective manuscripts;
  6. Each editor must ensure that the manuscript to be published is truly worthy and of high quality, both in terms of writing and substance.

Manuscript Review:

  1. Each editor must ensure that the manuscript to be processed is truly original;
  2. Each editor must ensure that the manuscript received is not indicated as duplicate and has never been published;
  3. Each editor must use and organize the peer review process and stages professionally and objectively;
  4. In terms of selecting and determining reviewers, editors must uphold the professionalism and ethical standards of scientific publication;
  5. Important matters or information related to the process and stages of manuscript review must be conveyed to the author through the OJS system while still upholding the scientific publication's professionalism and ethical standards.

Fair Play:

  1. Editors must uphold the ethics of professionalism, filter the suitability of articles based on the provisions of the Journal's general guidelines, both in writing and substance;
  2. Editors are required to apply the eligibility standards strictly and correctly, regardless of personal relationships, gender, race, religion, citizenship, and other collegial matters;
  3. Since editors hold vital positions and roles, each must uphold independence and integrity in editing and reviewing manuscripts.

Confidentiality:

  1. Editors must ensure that all information on the process and stages of manuscript publication, from submission to review, is only known to the author and the journal Team;
  2. Editors are strictly prohibited from disseminating manuscripts to the public that are outside the provisions and interests of journal publication, either in part or in whole.

Absence of Conflict of Interest:

  1. Every editor is strictly prohibited from utilizing, using, and making manuscripts for purposes that are contrary to copyright, either in part or in whole;
  2. Editors review all processes and stages of manuscript submission through the OJS system

 

REVIEWER'S DUTIES

Confidentiality:

  1. Reviewers uphold a professional and self-integrative attitude in carrying out review tasks;
  2. Reviewers are required to keep confidential and hide all information in the manuscript, either in part or in whole;
  3. The manuscript review and assessment process only involves reviewers with the Journal's editorial team;
  4. Reviewers complete their tasks according to the specified deadline.

Originality of Sources:

  1. Reviewers must ensure that all information or data in the manuscript is genuinely original and can be accounted for by the author;
  2. Reviewers must ensure that the manuscript truly meets scientific principles or rules, both in writing and substance;
  3. Reviewers ensure that the manuscript contains sufficient data and reference sources;
  4. Reviewers ensure that every presentation of data, both secondary and primary data, all have explicit references and sources;
  5. Reviewers ensure that the writing structure represents the scientific writing framework;
  6. Reviewers can recommend specific sources or reading materials if deemed necessary and important.

Objectivity Standards:

  1. Reviewers carry out their duties and obligations within a professional and objective framework;
  2. Reviewers assess and review manuscripts based on scientific principles and rules, assessing what exists, not making things up;
  3. Reviewers convey assessments, suggestions, input, and the like as clearly and simply as possible, equipped with arguments and foundations that are easy to digest;
  4. In terms of assessing the ethical standards of publication and the substance of the manuscript, Reviewers must be guided by all provisions applicable in the Journal;
  5. Every input and assessment by Reviewers must be constructive and directed towards strengthening the quality of the manuscript;
  6. Reviewers are permitted to enrich ideas or specific ideas as a form of feedback as long as it is deemed necessary and important to strengthen the quality of the manuscript.

Conflict of Interest Elements:

  1. Reviewers are strictly prohibited from using and utilizing the contents of the manuscript for any interest that is contrary to copyright, either in part or in whole;
  2. In terms of reviewing and assessing the suitability of the manuscript, reviewers are not permitted to establish communication that leads to and has the potential to cause a conflict of interest;
  3. Reviewing and assessing the manuscript is carried out by the reviewer, who is not permitted to delegate.

Consistency:

  1. Each reviewer works and carries out his duties according to the specified time;
  2. If the reviewer experiences obstacles or is prevented, he must contact the relevant editorial team immediately.
